The Cattails / Spirit routing is one of three championship 18-hole combinations at River Spirit Golf Club, a renowned 27-hole semi-private golf facility located just west of Calgary. Designed by acclaimed golf architect Russ Olson, this routing combines the open, links-inspired Cattails Nine with the scenic Spirit Nine, creating a championship course that blends strategic golf with spectacular natural surroundings. The Cattails Nine features gently rolling fairways, natural wetlands, fescue-covered hillocks, willow trees, and panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains. It rewards thoughtful shot-making with strategically placed bunkers and large Bentgrass greens. The Spirit Nine winds through mature trees and the Elbow River valley, offering generous landing areas, subtle elevation changes, and holes inspired by the natural landscape and the area's Indigenous heritage. Together, these two nines provide a balanced round that is enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels. From the Blue tees, the Cattails / Spirit combination measures 6,788 yards, playing to a par 72 with a course rating of 71.5 and a slope rating of 128. From the championship Black tees, the course stretches to 7,090 yards with a course rating of 73.5 and a slope rating of 132, offering a strong test for low-handicap golfers.
